perfect opportunity to check out one my best shows ever can be found HERE.

Yes, this was the first time anyone has ever really complained openly about anything to do with one of my shows.

Thanks for the kudos. :D

Let me step in and say that Hoyt is the most professional and accommodating promoter out of any I have worked with. I wasn't in anyway trying to degrade or put down his events. I wouldn't perform at them if I didn't think they were worthwhile. I was just stating my personal opinion about one bands set, that is all. If it came off as anything else, I did not mean for it to seem that way.

I seriously have never heard of any of those bands. Guess it's a different genre than I'm used to.

and I appreciate that. Points taken. Sorry if I came off as a little defensive, but I do take pride in my shows.

The show on Feb 2nd will have a headliner who has played ProgPower USA twice in the past - once as a Showcase headliner. Each of the three supporting bands will get 45 minutes or less. The opening band - who my son is the lead singer for - will only be allowed 25 minutes. Circle II Circle will be allowed 60-75 minutes on stage because they are converging on Atlanta from three different states and deserve the time. They are playing last, but the show will start early at 7PM and should be over by 11:30. This will allow fans of the headliner to hang out with the band(s) and chat it up after the show and before too late.

Then everyone can be up in time to celebrate and enjoy SuperBowl Sunday! WooT! GO GIANTS!!!

no worries. I haven't ever heard of many of the extreme death metal bands mentioned in various threads here either. But they all seem popular in this community. And it's ALL metal - no matter how you slice or grind it, right? ;)

Circle II Circle is a melodic power metal act whose lead singer - Zak Stevens - was the frontman for the traditional power metal act Savatage through the 90's primarily. He broke away from them in 2001 to form his own band CIIC. They have played ProgPower on two occasions, the second time headlining the Thursday Night Showcase.

Halcyon Way are an aggressive progressive power metal act local to the Atlanta scene. They were one of the first acts to have played the ProgPower 'Pre-Show Party' which eventually grew into the Showcase. Then last year they were called upon to open the Showcase when a German headlining band could not make the event at the last minute. Halcyon Way performed to rave reviews. Their debut album is currently being mixed and mastered by James Murphy (Death, Testament, etc), and should be released Spring or Summer of 2008.

Odin's Court is a progressive rock/metal act from Maryland who are heavily influenced by the songwriting styles of everyone from Pink Floyd to Rush to Queensryche. They opened the Bay Area Rockfest in San Fransisco last year. And they've been interested in bringing their interesting style of music to Atlanta for quite some time.

Eclipsed by Sanity will be opening the show with their brand of power/thrash metal. Think Iron Maiden meets Testament meets Lamb of God. EbS has a dynamic stage show with a rich traditional metal sound tempered with modern thrash.

anyway, sorry to hijack the thread to a degree, I just wanted to explain the sound of each band. You can go back to the Feb 2nd Circle II Circle thread and find links to each band's site for sound samples.

Hope to see everyone there! 8)

they put on a very solid show but I think an hour and 20 minutes is a far stretch at a local show (even for a headliner). Just my opinion though, I enjoyed the show regardless. Thanks again for having us.
i wasn't at the show but i'd have to totally agree. we sounded off on this very topic in the general discussion a week or so ago.

well, I stated my reasons for allowing them so much time in my previous post above. This was not an 'average' local show. Theocracy played last on the bill. They merely wanted the stage time to perform what would have been their headlining festival show - which they were going to be allowed 90 minutes. They played 80 minutes here. If anyone thought it was too long or that it became boring after a while, it was their choice to leave. Yet at the end of the set, the room was still almost as full as it was when they hit the first note. 8)

At most of the shows I put together, I allow the opening band anywhere from 30-40 minutes on stage, depending on how much of a draw they are. The second band usually gets 45-50 minutes. Then the closer/headliner gets as much as an hour in most cases. If it's an out of town band, I may give them longer just to make it worth their trip.

No one is tied to the room. They are free to come and go as they please.

If anyone thinks they can do better - start investing your own time and money into these shows. At least I'm trying.

i'm not trying to insult you in the least. i've only heard great things about how you handled your shows. i just have strong convictions about these things b/c not only have i been a performing musician for the last 10 years but i have set up a lot of shows. I've also invested tons of time and money to this scene......just not recently.

basically, i'm not trying to argue at all. i just happen to have an opinion on the subject and feel that it holds some weight. just something to think about.

and, not to be an ass, but i'd say that there are more people than you might realize on these boards that have spent a lot of time and/or money on the metal scene in atlanta. the majority here actually. again, not to be an ass but just to point out that you aren't getting blasted by a bunch of snot nosed teenagers that think they know everything. you are getting constructive criticism from some musicians/promoters/supporters that have experiences of their own to draw from.

with all that said......keep up the good work!
