October 9th Opening slot Athens

Post by JMincemoyer » Wed September 17th, 2008, 3:23 pm

Would any Atlanta bands be interested in opening for Exmortus (Heavy Artillery Records) on Thursday, October 9th. The band is on tour and looking to fill the date and I would like to have them play at the Caledonia in Athens. Looking for a death/thrash band if at all possible. If interested, please post here. I need to know rather quickly so sooner is better.

Thanks.
JM

Check out malefic, www.myspace.com/thetruemalefic I think is the link, if that doesnt work search "malefic atlanta" or something of the sorts and youll find them. Solid group of guys you can depend on to do a show.

Thank you. I will check them out...

Not bad. I think it would fit nicely. Do you have a contact email beyond MySpace? I do not have a MySpace account. Any information would be most appreciated.

I believe they are going through some line up changes now...they don't have a bass player anymore and the like

Thanks for the information. I have emailed Peregrine. I know they are planning on moving North, so I am not sure about their current status...

Hey man

I can take the show. Here's my myspace: http://www.myspace.com/parsonsmatt

Send me an email if you're interested. I'm local to the Athens area so I can rally the troops out.

Matt,

Thank you for the reply. The show has been booked. It will be Kill Lebaron, Exmortus and Peregrine. Price will be $6.

In an aside: I had Malefic from Atlanta ready to play (thank you Adam), but the booking rep at The Caledonia basically told me that Atlanta bands do not draw so it would be in the best interest to book locals. So much for fostering scene reciprocity! Also, had to manipulate the bill so that Exmortus would be seen. Appears in Athens that people might leave after the local bands play, which boggles my mind, but seems to be reality here. This town sucks.

Awesome! Wasn't my doing. The club booking rep got them because, as I stated before, Atlanta bands do not draw (according to the club). I needed to make the show happen. We'll see. I've never heard Kill Lebaron. At least I get to see Peregrine - finally. And I am glad to have gotten Exmortus here.

Damn Athens is too far away for me to go to, even for Exmortus. They're a really good band, anyone who goes for the local openers then leaves for them is a damn fool; great band.

And that's what happened, about half of the people that paid left, although a lot of people did stay for Exmortus, who slayed! I was actually surprised, especially at the crowd's response. The crowd certainly enjoyed joining the band on stage, which is what they do "in California." They were a great group and a lot of fun. Their energy was infectious. The live version of "Axes Of War" was incredible.
