Twilight of the Thunder God
What are everyone's thoughts on Amon Amarth's newest album? I've been listening to it nonstop since it leaked, and being a huge Amon Amarth fan, I worship at their feet once again. I seriously think they can do no wrong.
Thoughts?

The title track, Where Is Your God?, Guardians of Asgaard and Embrace the Endless Ocean are the best songs I think. Quite a damn good release, I guess if I had to rank them now it would be:
With Oden On Our Side
Versus the World
Once Sent From A Golden Hall
Twilight Of The Thunder God
Fate of Norns
The Avenger
The Crusher

Fate of Norns
The Avenger
The Crusher

Mmm, yes good input.Vhyle wrote:It sucks.
Embrace of the Endless is such a good song, Johan Hegg stated in an interview it was crafted out of his sick morbid sense of humor. It's a song about a man who had been a slave/prisoner of war for many, many years and was finally freed. And he found his freedom on the ocean, but on his way home the ship sunk and he died. Damn, that's sad.
Uhh...Amon Amarth has done the same thing on every single one of their albums. Nothing they've ever released is imaginative at all. It's the same formula over and over.Vhyle wrote:It's boring and unimaginative. It's a new album, but yet it's nothing new. I can't get into it.
Still a damn good band, but I think the newest album has some pretty weak songwriting.

For the sake of playing devil's advocate: Assassins: Black Meddle, Part 1Ecrypt wrote:ummm, so that amounts to about EVERY metal band thats released music since Slayer in the mid 80s. Care to share any bands that are completely original, that doesn't sound familiar in some way?Vhyle wrote:I just can't dig it because I've heard it all before. Or it just seems like that.
I realize most of you absolutely detest this album, but my money is on most of you being averse, tone deaf mental ward escapees.
I still think that album is awful. Not sure what the hype is.ScreamBloodyGore wrote:For the sake of playing devil's advocate: Assassins: Black Meddle, Part 1Ecrypt wrote:ummm, so that amounts to about EVERY metal band thats released music since Slayer in the mid 80s. Most of the "original" bands are overrated. Stuff like uneXpect, Vulture Industries, etc. Now I do like these bands, but they aren't godsends and they aren't going to save music. Just give me some Deeds of Flesh and I'm happy.
There are a few really cool bands though who have a unique take on metal though -- Semen Across Lips/Parabstruse, Contrastic, and Gonin-Ish come to mind.
