I definitely agree with this. That's a reason why I love smaller venues.

I guess I failed to say that I'm not much into the whole prog/ power thing so that's probably why I don't see the value in it. I don't really know anyone in that scene (except for a few people who live here) I know that people who absolutely love it will more than willingly spend the money. And besides, I'm going to Maryland Deathfest so that factors into my budget! 8) There's 3 times as much bands and it's cheaper BUT I do have to pay travel expenses for that.
This year's MDF lineup is a lot better than ProgPower and if I had the money I would totally go.

Amanda, you and I need to talk. If you go to MDF, and I go to CIM, we should get together and write some reviews.

Sorry, didn't mean to hijack the thread... carry on...

I'd love to see Iced Earth and Jon Oliva, but it's just not worth over $100. Amorphis is alright from what I've heard, but that isn't very much.

I could by into the fact that it's less than $10 a band if I actually was going to watch and enjoy every band there. The only way I'm paying all of that money is if I like at least half of the bands, but only two (and a half) really doesn't cut it.

Riverside was awful.
Andromeda was alright from the song or two I watched.
Elvenking was very bad. Very unorganized and didn't look comfortable on stage at all.

Amorphis was the best set I've seen in a while. Better than Carcass.

Here's next year's lineup. Meh.

Andre Matos
Royal Hunt
Sabaton
Diablo Swing Orchestra
Tomorrow's Eve
Power Quest

Fates Warning
Brainstorm
Pagan's Mind
Orphaned Land
Circus Maximus

Orphaned Land, Circus Maximus, Pagan's Mind, and Sabaton are great. DSO could be good.

Wait, Orphaned Land is playing?

Fuck me.

Edit- what a jackass I am.

Also, Metalfreak, you're more than welcome to take me along with you to MDF this year.

better then Carcass? that is quite a statement!

I've heard of like 3 of these bands and only have actually heard one of them.

a friend of mine is at progpower right now (well, this weekend)...she doesn't seem to thrilled about it either.
They had you do a drug test and the forgot to test for drugs???

It was $140 for badge and i don't really do the special shit that goes with the badge like getting in early...i just primarily get so i have it every year without having to think and buy tickets in case they sell out and i want to go. it is automatic annually and you know how my memory is.... LOL
and you are right, i don't have that $140 nor do i have the other $500 i probably spend... YIKES.... LOL

several people had extras for cheap but i did not really know anyone that
wanted to go so they went to waste.

One of my friends goes every year...she has one of those special badges and willingly pays extra for the stupid thing every year! She told me that thing was like $175 or something. All I can say is that is $175 I will have and she won't!

Prog/Power was fucking amazing. I'm the hugest Iced Earth fanboy and seeing them with Matt Barlow back was beyond amazing. Greatest single live act ever, better than Blind Guardian, Amon Amarth, and Carcass. Yeah.

I'll definitely be there again next year, fucking Pagan's Mind and Sabaton are worth it alone, adding Andre Matos, Circus Maximus, Power Quest, Fates Warning, Brainstorm, Royal Hunt and Fates Warning makes it a sure fucking thing.

Does anyone know if Fates Warning plays any of their Arch-era stuff live?
