i'm with you 100%. time is money in my world and i'd honestly rather pay $20-30 for this. i'm a working man and theres no way possible i could get to one of these stores before all the tickets were gone. plus, paying for it would better ensure that the real fans of these bands go and not just a bunch of vultures that heard something was free.

not to mention it would feel more "authentic" or "real" if money was invloved. i feel like this could be one of those infamous bait and switches that advertises all these great bands and then 60% of them mysteriously cancel the day of.

yeah, they're using the music park, heaven, and hell

they did say all the stages at the Masquerade so that may also include the one in Purtgatory as well...

oh, and one of the promotors I keep contact with for my show gave me this explaination as to why they're giving away more tix than the venue can hold:
As far as the why, it makes sense when you think about it. When you give away free tickets, a good chunk of people lose them, throw them out, or decide to do something else that day. They don’t even think about it since they didn’t pay money for them. So if a hot date or something comes along, screw the free show! We saw this a lot with the free Ozzfest where some of the shows wouldn’t be very packed. 30-40% of free tickets never show up. So if you give exactly venue capacity, you’re pretty much guaranteeing a show that isn’t sold out. They don’t expect a crazy line around the corner or anything like that as it is.
it does make sense but this is still gonna be a clusterfuck!
They had you do a drug test and the forgot to test for drugs???

Okay, here's the thing...30%-40% won't show up. In ticketing in general this is true. Absolutely. But anyone who passed 4th grade could tell you that if they give away 10,000 tickets, and let 5,000 people in, then you've got 1,000 to 2,000 people who will show up and be pissed off that they can't get in. That's not smart with any crowd...but especially stupid when you're talking about Metalheads. Those fuckers are crazy! haha On top of that, the people who like these bands reeeealy like them (Neurosis for instance). So if they've gone to the trouble to get the tickets, they're gonna show up. I wouldn't figure on a no-show rate any higher than 30%.
Let the joyous celebrations of Hell begin!

dude I really hope not...short sets from bands I like is better than having to skip bands I like completely due to having too many bands playing at the same time!

just another reason i'd rather pay for tix. i'm much more into buying a ticket that i know is going to get me into a show than getting a free ticket that is worthless..........go figure.

i'm glad to hear that they will be using the entire venue. makes me much less nervous about the event.

Got mine last night. I suppose showing up any later than eight or nine in the morning would be pointless, right?

I spoke with the guy from Decatur CD today. He told me that he has received calls from Canada and England about the show. On the Decatur CD blog, their comments from all over, indicating that people are going to be travelling in.

I am beginning to think that Scion will sell the email list that this ticket-scheme will generate. But that really doesn't seem like enough to cover all the costs that they are going to incur.

Anyway, I got my tickets today. Woohoo! Assuming that we get there early enough, OddTodd and I are in.

haha, the people from canada and england should stay their asses home!!! its rediculous that someone would be willing to travel that far just for one show. i mean, its going to badass as fuck but still....just not worth it from that far away.

i will be so fucking pissed if people from england get into this show over me or anyone else who lives in georgia.

we should just have one person from the board show up really early and then have everyone else meet up with him in line.

a small riot might start because of that. i just plan on spending the night at my friend's condo and maybe going up there around midnight JUST to make sure there isnt like a 1000 people there already. im not sure how this is going to work out.

brian, do you want to do what you were talking about earlier still??? my friend said its cool anyway. we plan on having a small group of friends there. getting drunk and shit.
