I want to...it depends though. I'm probably gonna do WREKage the night before since there will be a lot of out of town folks running across it plus we're gonna try to get some bands to come in. And I want to get at least a few hours of sleep.

i heard from a very reliable source last night that Scion has done these shows before and that it would be as awesome as we all want it to be. well worth the hassle for the tickets.

I know they've done some smaller shows...I think Withered played at one out in LA? But I don't think they've put on a festival before.

Edit: Yeah just checked an old email I have a guy at Prosthetic about Withered and he said "SCION out of all people is flying Withered out here for a free show in LA and one of the swanky hipster clubs out here. It's like an RSVP-only free show sponsored by SCION and Vice Magazine with Today Is The Day..." so yeah, both Scion and Vice (the other people involved with the fest) have experience with metal shows.

Yeah. That'd be like going to Germany for a show. ... oh. Wait.

a small riot might start because of that.
I was thinking both. One person is in line, and then 20 others join him or her around 11:00? I would be pissed if I was just behind them!

But it is not a bad idea.

The only thing I'm worried is getting my really lazy friends up(1 sleeps till like 4 or 5 pm almost every day).

I'm waking them up at 6 am and they will shut up and get in the car or they're not going.

But I really hope the e-mail thing works and we can get our tickets next week.

How?

I just called and the guy's like "oh you gotta go to the scion site and register your e-mail then wait until 1/28"

And he basically acted like they weren't giving away tickets yet.

As far as the why, it makes sense when you think about it. When you give away free tickets, a good chunk of people lose them, throw them out, or decide to do something else that day. They don’t even think about it since they didn’t pay money for them. So if a hot date or something comes along, screw the free show! We saw this a lot with the free Ozzfest where some of the shows wouldn’t be very packed. 30-40% of free tickets never show up. So if you give exactly venue capacity, you’re pretty much guaranteeing a show that isn’t sold out. They don’t expect a crazy line around the corner or anything like that as it is.
Okay, here's the thing...30%-40% won't show up. In ticketing in general this is true. Absolutely. But anyone who passed 4th grade could tell you that if they give away 10,000 tickets, and let 5,000 people in, then you've got 1,000 to 2,000 people who will show up and be pissed off that they can't get in. That's not smart with any crowd...but especially stupid when you're talking about Metalheads. Those fuckers are crazy! haha On top of that, the people who like these bands reeeealy like them (Neurosis for instance). So if they've gone to the trouble to get the tickets, they're gonna show up. I wouldn't figure on a no-show rate any higher than 30%.
just another reason i'd rather pay for tix. i'm much more into buying a ticket that i know is going to get me into a show than getting a free ticket that is worthless..........go figure.

i'm glad to hear that they will be using the entire venue. makes me much less nervous about the event.
I know it man. I'd rather pay and KNOW I'm getting in than not know until I get there!

@Knucklehead - yeah true! I'd love to go to Germany (or anywhere else in Europe for that matter) for a festival! I've been to a show in Amsterdam but it wasn't a grand festival or anything...just a smaller show. It just happened to be there when I was there.

anyways, it's good that Scion has experience with metal shows. hopefully this doesn't turn into a distaster...
They had you do a drug test and the forgot to test for drugs???

I just walked into Decatur CDs and asked the dude for metal fest tickets. Took about 20 seconds.

What a dick.

I'll just wait until Wednesday just to make sure.

Yeah, you can just walk into Criminal and get them too. Also, got a free poster without buying a cd.

The guy at Decatur CD told me that, once this thing really starts, if you buy a CD of a band that is playing the show, then you will get a free lithographed poster, like the one that is a few pages back in this thread.
