 good luck with that one. They ain't cheap! I know 2 people who paid about 12 grand each to get out of a DUI. I'm assuming yours isn't alcohol related though...

@V-GER - yeah I agree with you there. They probably left them in plain sight.
They had you do a drug test and the forgot to test for drugs???

lol @ "stealing Paul's lunch." If it had truly been just food they were after, I'd happily have tossed them a buck or two for Mickey D's value menu!

They took a 400W DC-to-AC converter, but not my iPod. They took a small backpack with gym-clothes in it, but not my radar detector -- which they probably thought was a GPS. They took the cooler I use to take lunches to work. Somehow I doubt they'll be interested in the new Robert Jordan hardback that happened to be inside it.....

I'm kinda hoping they OD on my gout medicine, which was also in the lunch cooler.
That's weird. At least they didn't take much of value, so as long as they didn't screw your car up breaking in. I hope they are on immuno-suppressors and take your gout medicine because then they might die.
Now, now.

Only if I can videotape it.
How is the new Jordan novel? Did Sanderson do a good job? I was kind of getting burnt out by book 7 or 8 last time I read through the series.
It's excellent. The style is a lot like Jordan's except that it's a lot tighter. Things are happening and happening pretty quickly. Without giving too much away, there are 4 very significant demises in this book, one of which is brilliantly handled (and satisfies something every fan kinda knew for years, but in a great way).
There is a major attack.
There is a major "healing of a rift."
And there is a major, shall we say, failure of diplomacy.

Anyway.....it's great. I was two chapters away from finishing it when the thieves stole it. May the fleas of a thousand trollocs and two Forsaken infest their armpits.

Ooops...about messing up the car: near as I can tell, the only damage was to the window. If they had fucked up the door, like the Circuit City stereo thieves did when they broke into my car and stole back the radio they had installed 6 days earlier (this was years ago, back when CC was still in business...glad that karma finally caught up with them), then I think State Farm would have totalled the car instantly. It's a 2002 and has 186,000 miles on it.

..at the Ensiferum show, someone's car got broken into and it turns out they took 2 laptops out of it.
Yeah some girl was screaming her head off...guess that was her. The only thing I've gotten stolen is all 4 hubcaps but I laughed at that...it was hilarious.

I'm so cheap but after dealing with that, hearing about this, and this dude in my class getting his wallet stolen and his rear view mirror broken at a show a few weeks ago, I might start paying the $5 to park in the parking lot. And take my college books worth about $300-$400 out of my car from now on.

seriously, it would have been cheaper to just go pay the fine unless the consequences would have made them lose their job or something.

typically you're looking at a $1000 fine, DUI school ($300), Drug/Alc Evaluation ($125), MADD Victim Impact Panel ($75), 40 hrs community service, and license suspension and probation ($40 a month) for up to a year (or til you finish all that shit.) Def not worth $12k unless your jobs in jeapordy
SPEWTILATOR - Badass motherfuckin' street cops with nothing to lose who don't play by the rules and are out for blood.

Plus the $237 license reinstatement fee. In DeKalb, a first DUI generally has a $300 fine.

yeah all that's alot to pay for but it still beats $12k any day!

I think you only lose it for 4 months. At least that's how it was for 2 of my friends and my brother. For all 3 of them, it was their first offense though...it may be longer if it's your 2nd offense.

"Not that you have any DIRECT experience with that...." :)

Seriously, that was a complete, concise look at the financial toll. Except maybe for the license reinstatement fee as someone pointed out.

Still cheaper than $12 grand, but victory in a courtroom is its own reward. "Take THAT, you powers-that-be!"
