I only went to see Destroy, saw them once when I lived in TN and have wanted to see them ever since, lol... I was kinda freaked out, I think I was the one the singer was pointing to, he stood on the ledge right on top of me

I wish DDD could have gotten a bit longer to perform, but they've actually had some lineup changes, and were short their keyboardist to boot. From what Hoyt told me, 4 songs was about all DDD could muster at this time.

Still a good show, and the singer's Thor's Hammer tat on his chest was ace.

I'm just wondering.....supposedly the show upstairs HAD to end promptly at 11pm because an acoustic act had sold out Hell, and was going on at 11....but that sure didn't sound like a merely acoustic act to ME.... :)

Yeah I stayed for the whole show. I'm not saying I didn't think Cage and Halcyon Way kicked ass, I was just most interested in EBS and DDD. Cage definitely had the best stage presence. I think all the bands did a great job and Hoyt definitely knows how to put together an amazing show. My only problem was that I thought Veins Iced Over deserved a longer set.

Yeah, Cam, I agree that VIO deserved a longer set than 3 songs. They were rather impressive. But I also agree with the other guy, that Cage was killer as hell! The bands, from my most favorite to least

Cage
EBS
DDD
VIO

I appreciate everyone's support of the Metal MayDay event. I'm glad some of you could make it out. And yes, it has been a roller coaster ride to get this show onto a stage somewhere. The Planet X location was scrapped by the owners of that venue just as soon as I picked up tickets from Ticket Alternative (and lost $50 on that). So I 'sold' the show to the Masquerade, knowing that it would likely do better there at the all ages facility than at The Local Venue in Marietta where I've held so many of my shows (the old Darkside stage).

So the Masquerade agreed to take the show onto the HELL stage, which was fine. I wouldn't expect more than between 300-350 metal fans to come out for this anyway. Perfect. The posters were re-done. Tickets were re-ordered. Promotions began anew. I appreciate Cameron bringing it here and promoting on these forums for me while I concentrated on MySpace and I_LOVE_ZUCKERPENIS promotions. Unfortunately Cameron's band ARKTIDE disbanded before the show ever got here. Instead of adding a replacement I decided to go forward with what we had and give each band an extra song on stage.

But that was not to be either. Because the Masquerade had other ideas. They booked an 'acoustic' touring band in the Hell room and moved us upstairs. No problem. Bigger stage = smoother backlining, right? Wrong.

The Monday before the show I received a message from the Masquerade saying that we had to be finished no later than 11PM so as not to interfere with the 'acoustic' act downstairs in Hell. Well the show had already been promoted as starting at 7PM, so we couldn;t start any earlier, lest the two opening bands play to NO ONE. So the Masquerade told us we needed to split the show into Heaven/Purgatory.

I had a tough decision to make that day and I had to make it fast. So I talked to the local bands - responsible for 90% of the pre-sale tickets. And we made the joint decision that Eclipsed By Sanity would support Veins Iced Over downstairs in Purgatory. EBS had the fewer of the three bands ticket sales. And VIO was pretty much completely unknown on the bill. They were added only as a favor to CAGE's management. I could have easily used that spot for another good-drawing local band. This new plan of action was explained to the visiting bands, who all understood and said we'd still make it one hell of a night of metal! \m/

until the day of show... when I was fetching the rental drum kit from Crossover Studios across town and VIO was undermining my efforts at setting up a smooth-running show. Their two newest members were crying about having to play the smaller of the two stages. When the dust settled, all four acts scheduled to play upstairs agreed to cut a song or two to allow VIO to open the night (with a much shorter set than planned) and start the show 15 minutes early.

So if there's any griping and moaning to be done about ANY of the bands having to cut their sets short - please take it up with Veins Iced Over. Because I tried to explain to them that they'd have as good a time on the Purgatory stage playing to more people (remember, they voluntarily started early and played a short set). Later when EBS was playing to a packed room downstairs, Morrie of VIO said to me "we should have played down here"... NO SHIT!!!?

Regardless, we had a great night of pure unadulterated old school heavy metal, with touches of modern creativity (EBS and DDD in particular).

CAGE wants to return. DDD wants to return. Both bands are some of the coolest performers I've ever had the opportunity to work with. So I'll definitely be bringing them each back, sooner than later. So watch for it.

Thanks for clearing everything up, pathfinder. I had a really good time, in spite of everything. I'm looking forward to whatever the October thing that Mark mentioned. And I'm really glad Cage and DDD want to come back. I was afraid the crowd response and lack of organization of the Masq's part would deter them.

And what was up with the "acoustic" act anyway!!!!!
