Where from did you see this?Azrael wrote:There's rumors just surfacing of a Triptykon / 1349 tour coming in the fall. I hear Withered put in a bid to do it. Watain also after that tour.

The information came directly from the Withered guys. The tours are in the early stages so nothing set in stone yet but I bet they happen. Thunderdome Touring is doing a ton of great metal tours lately.V-GER wrote:Where from did you see this?Azrael wrote:There's rumors just surfacing of a Triptykon / 1349 tour coming in the fall. It's looking more like Withered is only doing one tour this fall. Both tours are probably going to happen but Mike is trying to get on the Watain tour. If it does'nt happen then he's going to do the Triptykon / 1349 tour. As for the stench of Watain, it's so brutal but I did'nt mind. Masquerade was certainly the worst of the four shows I saw.

Riffs aren't connecting w/ me. They're interesting, but nothing like CF, IMO. When this happens, a record's pretty lost on me... That and the production is weird. Dynamic range is off and w/in the same song the listener gets moments of extreme treble and bass.
So, it sounds like an incarnation of CF, but more progressive and pissed off. I'm trying to understand why I don't like that.

I can find very few albums these days that I will listen to straight through. For instance, I pretty much only listen to "Angel of Death" and "Postmortem/Raining Blood" from RIB. I don't know if that is because of age or what.
There are a certainly a few clunkers on this album for me. I don't care for "Myopic Empire" or "In Shrouds Decayed." Still undecided about "My Pain" (the title of which for some reason always makes me think of "My War") and "The Prolonging."
But the rest is pretty massive, IMHO. "Shrine" reminds me of a very creepy version of "Danse Macabre". And "Goetia" and "Abyss Within My Soul" bring the heaviness. Especially "Descendant." That song is somewhere up near Ozma and Bullhead in its skull-crushing power, tremolo-picked riffs and all.
YMMV.

...it would be Hell Awaits! hahaVOEGTLIN wrote:And what's the shit about not liking the whole of RIB? If there ever was a perfect record...
RIB is a close second for me in Slayer's catalog though. Def a "listen straight through" kinda record.

Hold on there just a minute, Hoss. I will be the first to admit that I'm pretty un-metal these days, but let's not turn insult to injury. I don't wanna get all Motresor on your Fortunato.VOEGTLIN wrote:And what's the shit about not liking the whole of RIB? If there ever was a perfect record...
Aaanyway. I never said that I don't like RIB in its entirety -- I just don't listen to it all the way through, these days.
I thought it was repressed like a year ago? Go to www.musicstack.com. you should be able to find a 180gr copy for $25.Brian wrote:why the hell hasn't RiB been repressed recently? was looking yesterday for a copy and the only ones are going for $100ish on Ebay. bullshit!
edit: I should specify I want it on 180g. they have normal ones for pretty cheap.
Edit: I have it on three formats and have to say, the fucking chrome cassette is the loudest, nastiest, most METAL format. And it cost me $7.99 at Record Bar a 1,000 yrs ago.

One thing that I've noticed, having come back from my metal hiatus, is that metalheads are now obsessed with production. When did that happen?
I see so much carping on other boards about this or that album's production being unlistenable or whatever. The production on Killing is My Business freakin' sucked. But we still listened to it. The reverb on Hell Awaits is absolutely ridiculous. But we still listened to it and loved it. Even Endless Pain left a thing or two be desired. But the heads didn't bang any less.
Why are so many panties twisted over this issue?
Alternatively, can I blame this all on Fenriz?
