Interesting, I only have the reissue of Rabid Death's Curse. My Casus Luciferi is the regular edition.

I had a great time in London, met a lot of people and enjoyed the fest immensely, the major exception being Von. Watain, Nifelheim, The Devil's Blood and Repugnant were all amazing in their respective ways. Watain and Nifelheim were (literally) both on fire.

No one can touch Watain at the moment. The new material, three songs, meshed perfectly with old. Hearing 'I Am The Earth' and 'Stellavore' never fails to impress. New track, 'Reaping Death', was blistering. No excessive amount of blood and no gore - just pure satanic deathnoise.

Nifelheim was all "leather, spikes and hellfire." Amazing. The intensity and how they "sell" their sound was fun to watch and hear. 'Satanic Sacrifice' was especially memorable. I hope I get the chance to see them again.

The Devil's Blood was captivating and the epic nature of their sound went over well. The singer, in a red dress bathed in blood was quite mesmerizing, especially when she would stage center stage, eyes closed and completely still...very evocative.

Repugnant blew open the crypt doors and never looked back. Too bad they aren't touring with Nominon in the US. Their 'Epitome Of Darkness' material sounds even more decrepit and deathly live. Would liked to have seen more blood and dirt, but their performance more than made up for the lack of visuals.

Vomitor was rather flat. I thought they had an interesting guitar sound, but they hardly moved and there certainly wasn't any real menace radiating from the stage. Actually, the bass player looked bored.

Von was...? The general consensus was "shite," if I may use the English vernacular. I did get to meet Goat before they performed, and he was very nice, but on stage they seemed nervous, out-of-practice and somewhat befuddled. People were trying, but they completely changed song arrangements, missed cues and made myriad mistakes. No blood, no masks, no mystery, no passion. The live material on 'Satanic Blood Angel' is quite hypnotic, which was most certainly not the case here.

Von is playing Hole In The Sky and I sincerely hope they get their chops down. Goat certainly needs to work on his stage banter, "You like that fuckin' shit or what? Fuck yeah!"

Craven Idol (UK) was a surprise. Never heard them before and their black/death/thrash sound ripped.

Azarath literally pummeled and sawed their instruments to splinters. No subtlety whatsoever, just blasting for the Devil. They went over well.

Funeral Throne (UK) were boring. No real dynamic at all.

Unfortunately, I missed Necro Ritual and Sacrilegious Impalement...

Although Von misfired, I had a great time. Might have been better served to have only featured four or five bands on one superior day, but this is generally how fests go so you take what you get.

Was able to score, although I had limited funds, a limited B&W print from the artist who did all of the 'Lawless Darkness' artwork - a print was made to represent and/or correspond with each song - as well as the limited Watain "blood and ink" commemorative poster. Both are quite striking.

People I met for the first time while there:

Alex from Necrophobic (and now Trident) and his girlfriend whose name I believe was Marta who does a Swedish metal blog under the name of Demonia in Sweden (www.demonia.webblogg.se).

The bassist from Portal. I missed his name...

Torturer from Hell Militia.

P. from Watain.

I also got to see and speak with Melissa from Adorior and LSK from Hell Militia/Secrets of the Moon, but I know both of them already.

Saw Olly from MOSS, but only in passing.

The Garage held about 400-500, I think. And because it was so small it was really great to bump into people or just walk up to someone and start a conversation.

Found out while talking with P that they will be playing London again in September with Destroyer 666 opening, which I am also planning to attend! Watain will do a complete tour of America in the fall, but beyond that he didn't have any details...

This is hilarious. Even more hilarious is reading all the drones on the NWN board now castigating VON for their "Emperor's New Clothes" bit in London. Just a year ago, the same drones were scrambling to buy a Satanic Blood Angel vinyl in every color, backpatch, dental dam, etc., praising Yosuke to the Aether for "unleashing" Von again.

Wish Repugnant would tour the U.S.

ive always thought satanic blood was a far superior demo to blood angel and that the release of blood angel didn't add much to their legacy. the VON resurgence started by nwn putting out their unreleased material was an exciting prospect but really unnecessary and probably would have been better left undone.
