yea, it's done on the snare drum where you rest the stick on the rim of the snare. flo from cryptopsy and longstreth from origin do it a lot. mostly it's associated with drummers who tap very lightly on their drums and rely on triggers and a PA system in order to be heard above the guitars.Metalfreak wrote: also, what is a gravity blast? my feeling is that if you play the drums you better play them like a man and HIT THEM. I look at drummers who use the light tapping technique to play fast as basically cheating.

I'm sure there are better tutorials, but I like this one. "Bork! Bork!"

Starting at 1:25 then past the 2 minute mark he uses it more often in the right places. Lord Marco rules!

Second one here he starts off with it then periodically through the rest of the song.

Yeah there are definitely dudes that rely on triggers way too much and are more or less cheating, but seeing a drummer who's the real deal do that stuff live without needing them is always cool. i agree, it can be done well and in a way that compliments the rest of the drumming... it just seems like 99% of the time it's being overdone by some douche nozel who's just tap tap tapping away thinking their hot shit until the PA goes out.nocommands wrote:Yeah there are definitely dudes that rely on triggers way too much and are more or less cheating, but seeing a drummer who's the real deal do that stuff live without needing them is always cool. my feeling is that you shouldn't NEED triggers to play your set. sure they're nice when you're playing some huge venue and i understand their appeal to drummers who are playing really intense shit for months on end on tour but to not be able to play your set unless you have them is pathetic.
