How is the metal scene in Atlanta?

I have been playing drums for 18 years. Thats probably longer then you have been alive

as far as i'm concerned, 18 years of playing christian metal is the equivalent of not even playing at all

Are there no people that are into Christain metal that are 18 and over in and around Atlanta?

Use the search function on the board. You'll find plenty of posts about bands that for one reason or another fall into this category. My interests are objectively about the music, but I still dig the hell out of Extol, Antestor, early Mortification, the first three Living Sacrifice records, etc. I used to pick up pretty much anything R.E.X. Records or Intense (via Nuclear Blast) put out back in the day. Crimson Thorn, Oblation, Evroklidon and that kind of stuff are still regulars in my stereo. I'll even hear an occasional Yeti tune on WREKage (GA Tech's way awesome FM radio metal show).

Im friends with the guys in Crimson Thorn. I used to live in Minneapolis where they are from. I was just talking to thir old drummer the other day (keven). He is going to be doing some shows with them again soon. Those guys are really very cool. The first night that i met them i had some questions for them. So after the show me and them went out and got some food. After that i used to hang out with Keven at his place and around the city.

Thats awesome that you are into those bands! Great stuff! And that is very cool that you can actually hear Yeti on the radio there.

At this point it really looks like i may be moving to Atlanta next year.

My advice to you is if you are really interested in the metal scene here then you should come out to some shows regardless of whether the bands are lyrically/spiritually in your niche.

We have some great metal bands that while not being overtly satanic, they certainly aren't "christian" and to skip out on them entirely would be doing yourself a great disservice as a fan of metal and a resident of the city. As long as you keep an open mind and don't try to tell people they are wrong for their personal choices (cussing, religion or lack there of, etc.) you should have no problem finding a place here.

Right on. Saw them when I scored a pass to Cornerstone several years ago. Hung out with Miles a little while. Never really got to know the others. Cool dudes. I actually dug out my old Morphine copy of Unearthed last night...with the bonus Plagued demo.

And to stay on topic...like Ryan mentioned, do check out some shows here. I've been here about five years now and I personally think that Atlanta has more solid metal now than it has in a while.

I do for sure want to check out some of the shows if i move there. One of the ways that i plan on getting plugged into the scene is buy going out to the shows and meeting people and bands.
