I may disagree with you on all of the above. This is 'Merica and you can have any opinion you like, but I MUST insist that when you are formulating the diluting of Southern Rock, you must list .38 Special as the Coors Light of the Genre. ARS was not biting the 'Spec'.
For Blackfoot try Strikes. I always dug 'em because their early shit was a bit primal and raw. Just a thought...

If .38 Spec is Coors Light, B'foot is Natty Lite.
Strikes has a Howard Johnson houseband feel to it, where manicured beardo weekend warriors are making eyes at delapidated cougars in the audience while they fend off requests for "Simple Man," et al.
I like my Southern Rock a little more dirty than that.

Think Bone Awl, Absurd, etc. Harsh archetypical "black metal" vocals, shrill meaty guitars, minus the incessant blasting. More mid tempo. Simple non progressive rhythm with maybe an occasional d-beat thing happening. Punkish/rock & roll/oi undertone. I think it's an apt description.

More "Black Metal" bands need to listen to early Skrewdriver and Iron Cross.
