True, but this is not the case for 99% of flunk outs. Not every drop out is an Oliver Heaviside.
Flunking out was more of an extreme example. What I meant was that too often someone's grades don't match their level of intellect.
Einstein flunked math after all.
He excelled at math and science, though he often got only mediocre grades in other classes

But did he get
laid in high school?

Yes...but only in non-Euclidean, non-Newtonian dimensions.

Been a bit since my last visit here (school is keeping me busy) and came across this thread.
In my pedestrian observations, I'd say it isn't music preference that is the cause or effect of being brainy. However, I do believe that, much like exercising for muscle, the more involved or complex a music style is for a musician or an active (versus passive) listener then there is a better chance for academic success as music is a teacher of sorts. If I were to wager a guess, I'd point to jazz, classical and prog metal/rock as the music styles possibly more conducive to raising a brainy child. Not the only styles or the top three. Just three really good ones.
Known way to many meathead metalheads to think metal makes anyone smarter or that the smart flock to metal. haha.
HOWEVER.... I'd love to see a study on how metabolism rates result in a listener's tempo preference when choosing music.

i think this is the crux of why intelligent and interested people gravitate toward metal and especially extreme music. you ever try to introduce someone to a record, and they start having a conversation during the first song?

Yes, yes I have. haha. They ALWAYS start talking at the part you want them to ingest the most. haha. Something a member of the band is doing on a part that spices it up a bit and "Hey, ..."
