Dirt cheap seafood all cooked fresh to order. Steamed crawfish, oysters on the half shell and the devil's crack: Cane juice drink. It's pure awesomeness distilled down to the essense of perfection. Did I mention that it's good?

I've been meaning to try crawfish shack... love me some seafood.

Little szechuan isn't really my thing. I like to go where the locals go and not to be elitist but there were only white people in there both times I've gone :P

And yeah tofu house closed. But if you're in the mood for a korean restaurant named tofu house, there's one at 6200 Buford Hwy that yelp shows as being open

For mexican I go to El Taco Veloz at 5084 Buford Hwy. It's really good drive through mexican (they have outdoor tables as well)... I always get tacos when I'm there. 3 al pastor tacos for less than $6 is awesome. For sit down mexican I like El Rey Del Taco at 5288 Buford Hwy. Their shrimp/seafood cocktail is to die for and if you have like 2 other people to share a gigantic awesome feast with get the "El Rey Del Taco"

Yep, it's pretty much all white folks whenever we go too. But I can't argue with the food.

I will also second El Taco Veloz, but watch out for the beef because sometimes it gives you El Caca Veloz. Awesome horchata though - I like the weird opaque tub it comes out of. Mmmmmm!

Aaron, I'm with ya. I'm all about being the only round eye in the joint.

El Taco Veloz is the shit and there are few tattoos of the logo running around the city. Har, har...Don't overlook the chile relleno tacos.

El Senor Taco is pretty badass, too, but in a very different style. The fish tacos are the closest to true Cali style that I've found since the original La Costa closed down. The new La Costa is unrelated to the original from what I can telll; the food is totally different.

Plaza Fiesta has a killer little food court with a spot that makes the most amazing ceviche tostadas, but the name escapes me. It's great to go in on a weekend and watch all the families shop for shit that went out of style with RATT. If you believe in poor life decisions, definitely get tattooed while you are in there.

Pung Mie may have closed down (unconfirmed rumor), but it was one of my favorite spots. Originally it was a tiny hole in the wall full of day labors, then it built it's own fancy pants spot right next to the original. The new place had a very upscale feel for the first few years complete with gigantic tacky as hell chandelier, indoor koi pond, full bar and matching prices, but the servings were huge and very shareable. The Hot Brazed Shrimp (battered to hell and back and fried then tossed in a garlic soy based sauce) and the dumplings made dreams come true. Best experienced on Sunday mornings when wedding parties would come in and all the Chinese women were in full dragon lady garb. Awesomenss.

Sushi House Hayakawa is short jump outside the perimeter. It's probably the best fresh fish action in the city. Ask the chubby sushi chef (not the owner Art-san) about hanging out with Van Halen in the early 80s. Be ready to drop serious cash and have some of the best Japanese of your life.

Shoya is just up the road past the GM plant off Peachtree Ind. between the BrandSmart parking lot and the Lexus dealership. It's a Japanese "izakaya" which basically translates to pub with killer grub or Mom's kitchen fare. That place is amazing. Not cheap, but not crazy expensive and it has tons of unique kinds of booze. Also in that same brand spanking new mall is a new Super H Asian supermarket. It's cheap as fuck (but pricey-ish compared to Buford Hwy Farmer's Market which is nearly free) and has a kick ass food court. There's a Super H by my work in the sticks and I eat lunch there weekly - they have half trays of uni for $8. because Jesus loves me. I could seriously write about Japanese food all day.

Harmony is a "fake meat" Chinese place that does the style very well. It's the best I've had of that style and that style usually sucks; this place doesn't. Diana, we have to hit this place STAT. Or maybe the next place.

Penang is a Malaysian joint right next door to Harmony that's sick. Think of Malaysian as the best possible mix of Chinese and Thai. I'm drooling thinking about it. Across the parking lot from Penang is a Korean hotpot place. All the tables have burners in them and soup base is set down into the burners and you just add what you want. It's not exactly a shabu-shabu place. Not sure of the name or the style of food, but it's good.

Saigon Cafe is close to Crawfish Shack and is upscale Vietnamese. By that, I mean it's not pho. It's run by some second generation brothers. One graduated from Emory. They wanted to present some of their parents food to round eyes and they place is very welcoming. Shaken beef, green papaya salads...

Canton House rules the school for dim sum, but after a bad dim sum experience at another place, I've shied away from it for too long.

Tower Liquor. How has no one else mentioned Tower?? It's only the very best liquor store ev'ar. It's like a United Nations of Booze up in there. I've even found Amber O'Douls there for my man. Who even knew there was such a thing? That place rules and is about to be my local. I'm very lucky.

The Pink Pony I'll leave to another degenerate as that not my thing.

Jonesboro Road down in Forest Park is the poor man's version of Buford Hwy, but it simply doesn't compare.

Seriously, split this thread so that it may be gilded.

Hell yeah, good taste. Gotta check out the other places you mentioned. Saigon Cafe, is this Chateau de Saigon on Buford Highway? I love that place, upscale but good as shit vietnamese. Their singapore noodles (yes sort of an americanized dish) are to die for.

Oh and definitely be prepared to drop serious cash on Hayakawa but it is the best sushi I have ever eaten.

It's also located in two counties -- the Fulton/Dekalb line runs right through the structure.

Umm....okay!

The Pink Pony in Dekalb County is open on days when the titty-clubs in Fulton aren't...a fact Tim H. and I discovered to our horror and everlasting shame with Charlie Benante and John Bush of Anthrax riding in the back-seat. ("Up in New York, the titty clubs are OPEN on Sundays....")

You are correct about Chateau de Saigon. That is the correct name. I have it stored wrong in my brain and always say it wrong.

Now I want Hayakawa for dinner. I wonder if the Japanese places are going to be too bummed out about the earthquake? Most importantly how will this all effect the Tsukiji Seafood Market??

Hayakawa really is the best sushi I've had in Atlanta. Or anywhere, for that matter. You're gonna pay a bit more but it's amazing.

And it just feels authentic, unlike the soulless, assembly line/urban/disco sushi joints in town.

It is very, very good, To be fair all Japanese pales compared to Soto He used to be in the Disco Kroger, but moved to Manhattan about 4 years ago. I was seriously depressed for about three months after I first heard that he would be leaving. Tomo, Taka and Nakato (not the cook table side) also have very high grade fish.

For now, Artsuki is The Man. And seriously, ask the other thicker chef about Van Halen.
