Any gothic country fans here?

I'm doing a special 2-hour show on WREK Easter Sunday starting at 7pm highlighting the Denver gothic country scene in particular (16 Horsepower, Jay Munly, Slim Cessna, etc.) but also playing non-Denver bands influenced by the scene. It's good stuff and I hope yall tune in for a bit at least if you can.

Wow I never knew there was such a thing! Yeah, didn't know gothic and country could go together but then again, there is folk metal so I guess anything's possible!

I dig 16 Horsepower. Didn't know there were enough other bands like them to make up a whole genre.

older country music was always darker in subject matter than CMT crap of nowadays cowboy pop and the Denver scene revives that and takes it to an extreme. kinda like Nick Cave + Johnny Cash

you were playing some really good stuff man, what sucks is that I was studying and it was too good to properly appreciate while studying. Will need to get the podcast for this one later.

I saw Slim Cessna's Auto Club at SXSW a few years ago and really liked it. Really good, and I have a few friends that are nutso for 'em.

Not sure what makes it "goth" exactly, though it certainly isn't straight country.

The best part was walking into the bar they were playing (I think they went on at 1pm in some tiny dive.) Slim and Munly were standing on either side of the entrance and I just assumed that they were bouncers (they're both like 6'6" or close.)

Me: Do you need my ID or something?
Munly: Nope, walk right in.
