What does Heavy Metal mean to you?(or extreme music)

Post by Generubin » Tue May 3rd, 2011, 3:17 pm

Just something I thought would be interesting to discuss. If it's a lame topic then whatever. Everyone has a different tastes and opinions, including their favorite genres. Everyone has a different way of enjoying things they're passionate about.

I've heard people say that Heavy Metal is about aggression, death, h8, violence, the heaviness, the energy, the mood, etc etc etc

Personally to me extreme music is about empowerment and Heavy metal is making your voice heard.

So Atlanteans, why do you listen to the heaviness?

It means freedom. It means power. It means strength.

It means you're a part of something most people will never experience, and It means fuck you, and fuck off if you don't like it.

It means there's something to wake up for in the morning, I'd say.

HAHAHA!

Yeah, girls are a rarity in metal.

For me, metal is definitely about aggression and it's about having a great time! I love going to shows and hanging out with all of you. :P

i found metal as a little kid when i stumbled across kiss in a comic book, then discovered ozzy, maiden, priest, wasp, grim reaper ...which was the gate way drug for ... mercyful fate, celtic frost, slayer, venom , bathory etc and like drugs being a metal head means you gotta chase the dragon for the next fix of harder and louder
like the occult its about the escape personal empowerment, which is no coincidence, so many metal heads have an interest in the occult as well
for me it became a lifestyle, tribal misanthropy , like being in fight club you see some wearing a shirt of one of your favorite band and there is a sense they get it ,

Metal is an elitist club...and yes, it is definitely a sad-looking sausage fest most of the time...but I think the appeal, at least for me and maybe for others, is that it puts us in touch with parts of ourselves that we have always been told to suppress, but that if you were to really pay attention to the world's events, it's apparent that NO ONE suppresses them. Those people, who in conversations would openly deny that they believe people to be brutal and animalistic, typically don't like metal. It makes them feel uncomfortable to be smacked in the face with that honesty.

Whereas I like to hear music that extols sex and death.

It's a way for me to show all them meanies when I was in High School who's the real tough guy.

Heavy Metal was his only release

it's an excuse to get up and have a damn good time. probably the only thing that can keep my attention and keep me active for more than 10 minutes. it's also kind of ensured that i don't fall in with the groups of typical high school idiots who build their lives on blowjobs and beer. sometimes alienating yourself can be better for you
