hmmm
well last fm , youtube, blabbermouth
and from people who know what i listen to
i normally go in borders and read all the metal mags out for that week , but i find print reviews are deceptive - alot of magazines are in bed with the labels so in print they sound kick as but when you listen to them you are disappointed ,

Good point, but sometimes it's about reading between the lines.Odinson666 wrote:... i find print reviews are deceptive - alot of magazines are in bed with the labels so in print they sound kick as but when you listen to them you are disappointed ,
If the article is full of comparisons and other filler, odds are the writer got stuck with it and has to do something to promote whoever is on Nuclear Blast/Roadrunner/Century Media...
Diana and I recently were laughing about a Kevin Stewart-Panko full page on Blackguard. Dude did his job to promote them, but it was full of understatements and back handed "compliments."
I find that the reviews of the smaller bands - especially in the Choice Cuts of Terrorizer and other similar media - is where to get the real tips. Usually by the time a band is on a big label most of us have already vetted them.

Any sort of music outlet (print/online) that relies on advertising is usually hogtied by its advertisers unless it's a case where the music outlet (print/online) has an editorial board that appreciates or totally fucking digs what is being advertised in its pages or on its site. This is rare.
I loathe almost all print and online music writing as it's written by passionless idiots, except for:

well
there are alot good fan generated blogs out there
the dude on the needle drops is a little bit of a hipster but he is pretty passionate about music so i respect his opinion , granted personal taste factors in as well
for me what i look for in new music is not just heavy, there has to be chops , good songwriting and originality - which is the key , there are so many band out there that are almost cover bands of their influences , it's like thanks but if i wanted to here that i have -into the pandemonium at home or whatever the case maybe
so finding bands that are bringing something new to the table is more of the challenge i can find bands busting out the same old same old just clicking on itunes
