It wasn't posted on the Wonderroot site. As typical in Atlanta whoever booked it dropped the ball on promoting it. On the 6th, Night Fever from Denmark played and there was little to no promotion for it.
Anyone who books a show, you have to promote, that means more than creating an event on a 'social networking' site. That means make REAL flyers and getting out of the house. Pass them out at shows, leave them at record stores. You're making Atlanta look bad by promising something you don't have any intention of putting forth the effort. It's better not to book a band if you're too lazy then make this city look worse than it already does.

Their blog is showing a July 30th date in Atlanta, venue TBA. Who's booking this?
edit: they just posted on I_LOVE_ZUCKERPENIS that it's moved to savannah. major bummer.

In my opinion.............Stussey wrote:That means make REAL flyers and getting out of the house.
It's easy to say "get off your ass and hang flyers" but hundreds of shows are advertised every month via physical flyering and still suffer from shitty attendance. How often does a flyer alert you to a show you didn't read about on the internet or in a publication, or hear about verbally? It might happen here and there but far from often.
Making and posting flyers, by itself, does almost nothing to attract people to shows of obscure/little-known touring acts. 15 years ago, sure. Maybe even 10 years ago. But today, you cast a much bigger net hitting a few choice message boards, using the FaceBuck and doing a little homework.
Physical flyering today is akin to dumping CDs on the ground and hoping people take them home and listen to them as a means of promoting your band. It's largely a waste of time unless there is some amazing artwork involved, and even then, it's still not the main drawing factor to packing out a room.
The internet is a wonderful tool for targeting fans and reaches a lot more people than handing out junk mail to strangers.
I can agree with this. Though I think flyering shows leading up to the one you're promoting is still a great idea.Holiday Rambler wrote:In my opinion.............Stussey wrote:That means make REAL flyers and getting out of the house.

Actually real flyers stick in people's mind more than seeing a post online. But you have to use every available means to get the word out now. People have no attentions spans. Think about how many invites you get on FB? How many do you actually look at/pay attention to? When someone hands you a real flyer you at least notice it, even for a 2nd. Sometimes you remember it or seeing the online notice sticks in your head.
The other thing about real flyers is that if somebody puts a real effort into it, it sticks out in your mind and who knows, may be worth money in the future.
The problem with just doing it online is, unless you're friends with everybody, the some people aren't going to find out about it. And even when it is promoted, people in Atlanta find the flimsiest excuses not to go. People won't go because of the venue, who booked it, it's raining, etc, etc. I don't know how many times I've heard people use the excuse they haven't heard of the band(s),how do you think you find out about new music. Sometimes if you show up early or stick around other than to see your friend's band then leave, you'll be shocked that there are some really good bands you've never heard of that actually come to Atlanta.
It's lame that more people from out of town were at the Kromosom show at Wonderroot that people from Atlanta. It was promoted here, on the internet and with real flyers, sometimes it doesn't make sense.

Its pretty annoying how "bad" everyone in atlanta thinks people in atlanta are at going to/promoting shows. Being in bands who have toured west and east coast, i can speak from experiance when i say for the most part people in atlanta are good about supporting bands and coming to shows. It is actually one of the best cities. I feel like bands do a decent job promoting, yes it could be better, but for the most part the word gets out there.
I personally think the bigger problem is a lack of legit venues to play at. Sure, you have jacks, the warehouse's/archive gallery places, even bars here and there are good places for shows. but there are a lack of COOL DIY venues or all ages shows where people can come, drink/hang out with out being hassled, and see awesome bands. The old warehouse was perfect. But in atlanta its hard to get a show booked at jacks, or drunken unicorn, or 529/the earl/starbar, especially on a regular basis. We really need a go-to metal venue, similar to the old warehouse.

It sucks that sites like atlantshows.org don't exist anymore. That was really helpful my freshman year for finding stuff. I try to keep the wrekage events page as up-to-date as possible but it's tough since I find out everything from here and sometimes miss a thread or two. Maybe a I_LOVE_ZUCKERPENIS page for Atlanta shows would help? I know there was one for atlanta hardcore not too long ago.
I also don't think skipping shows because you don't know the bands is the end of the world. Sometimes people have hobbies aside from metal/punk, personal lives, etc. I try to go to as many shows as I can but sometimes there are nights where I just don't feel like going out. It happens, no big deal. But expecting people to go to every single show that happens in this city is nuts!

Agree I can afford maybe 5 shows a month and that's only in they fall in the $5-10 range. And still I gotta hope my GF doesn't want to go.Brian wrote: But expecting people to go to every single show that happens in this city is nuts!
Internet vs. Flyers: You still have a lot of people believe it or not that don't have either regular internet or the time for the internet. So you gotta flyer and you gotta keep flyering especially in Atlanta where's there's so much shit. I've seen people put up flyers only to have some one come up 30 minutes later to either rip it down or put another flyer over it.
So I think bottom line is though you have to in this day do both. I think some promoters just do a better job at utilizing both mediums the best because they do their homework and the legwork by keeping at it. You tend to appreciate that more so I think overall I personally when deciding what 5 shows to go to I go to the ones that the promoter took the effort to want me to go to the most. Updated information, bang for the buck etc.
