In the latest issue of The Atlantic, there is a story entitled "Pink Floyd: The Playlist of Libyan Revolt," about how the student rebels are uniting through Western rock music.

What caught my attention was the guy they introduce on the second page, in the Sepultura shirt. Who sang in a Death Metal band. In Libya. Real death metal, inspired by Cannibal Corpse, Death, Morbid Angel, etc.

For Bozaid, a machine gunner who put his body count at more than 25, preparation for battle meant listening to Slayer on his smart phone. "Some of my friends said that I should be reading the Koran. But I neeed my drug."

That story is pretty cool though, especially considering the setting. Rapists are coward scum.

That's one crazy story!

When I was still in high school, one of my class mates almost got mugged by knifepoint in Little 5. I say 'almost' because the mugger didn't succeed. My classmate was walking back to her car, and the dude came up behind her, grabbed her while holding the knife to her back. She somehow managed to kick him hard in the nuts, and then ran away! Not as metal as cutting of a rapist's head though lol

Metalfreak, I'm glad your friend got away. One of my friends nailed her carjacker in the face with her keychain mace after he punched her in the stomach. They caught the bastard in the woods crying like a baby.

Okay, metal-based discounts in un-metal places:

I was up in Tennessee for one of my biweekly 'escape' roadtrips to go swimming and freediving here and I stopped at a big fireworks store to get some fireworks for the Fourth. I was wearing an Amon Amarth t-shirt from the Surtur Rising tour, and the otherwise-cool longhaired metalhead employee didn't know who they were.
So naturally we got into a long discussion about metal and at his request, I wrote down a bunch of bands for him to check out.
Earlier, he had already apologized that they couldn't give me the usual 10% discount since I had forgotten to bring my discount card, but after I gave him the list, everyone from Kverletak to Tyr to Turisas to Moonspell, he glanced furtively around, says "we're really not supposed to do this," and hands me a new 10% discount card.

The following trip up there, I was getting a room at the usual motel I stay at in Cleveland. I was wearing the same shirt since it had already proven pretty lucky.....
The Indian guy* behind the counter saw the shirt, gave a thumbs-up, and proceeded to give me a rate that was $10 less than normal.

As I mentioned on WREKage, I think the shirt might have magical powers.
