I love/like all of Husker Du, but I've been listening to the first three: Everything Falls Apart, Metal Circus and Zen Arcade a lot lately. Blistering records.Ryan wrote: I never got into Husker Du, musically it reminded me of a tighter/faster Sonic Youth, maybe I should check HD out. Any record in particular?
That and:
PIXIES, Surfer Rosa. Cannot be topped. Not an errant note. Not many records have this much blood on their hands.

I'll back Stew on the HD recommendations. It's not a band that I'm overly familiar with, but I've loved MC and ZA for a long time. I believe that EFA has a more thrashy or hardcore sound and that the band wasn't as well formed as they got later on with catchier songwriting and an overall tighter sound.stewvee wrote:I love/like all of Husker Du, but I've been listening to the first three: Everything Falls Apart, Metal Circus and Zen Arcade a lot lately. I agree with you that the mix of tempos was a big part of why Overdose had a more dynamic/varied sound to it. Donny is a great player, for sure. I like the drums on the new record too. I just wish that the end result had a more broken up quality to it that let the songs breathe a little. I think the songwriting isn't as strong and also the production doesn't serve the album as well as it could. I know I'm really going on about this album, but I've been digging what Joel's been doing for a good while and Overdose is one of my very favorite albums. As good as C&C is, I'm still let down.

I like it. Much better than Dwarves Must Die. It fits in with Young and Good Looking, and Come Clean era stuff. Hewhocannotbenamed has a solo album out I have not heard yet either....note to self...download that later.badcarburetor wrote: Ooh! First I've heard of this. How is it!

Bovine Records is doing it. 12 bands on a 7" each doing 58 seconds of music. It's not being officially announced until it's totally pressed and in everyone's hands but the line up is super nasty.donkeytron wrote:Awesome, who's putting that out? KK Street Bangers - Street, Rotten, Thrash Derby
Holy shit this Eastern European(?) speed metal is damned near perfect. I'm not sure when I heard about them, probably BandoftheWeek, but not positive.
Go-Gos - Beauty and the Beat
Never tire of this record, even after so many decades.

I was in Croatia a few weeks ago and everyone seems to know about these guys over there. Pretty sure nothing that cool has come out of Montenegro in a long time...unfortunately, ne govorim crnogorski jezik.badcarburetor wrote:KK Street Bangers - Street, Rotten, Thrash Derby
