america's movie classification board was under pressure to act today after its UK counterpart refused outright to classify a new horror film, effectively banning its release.

In the unusual step, the British film ratings body ruled Human Centipede 2 (Full Sequence), posed a real risk of harm to viewers, prompting questions as to whether it will be released in the U.S.

It's the sequel to 2010's stomach-churning German movie about a mad scientist who grafts three kidnap victims together by stitching them mouth to anus, which the MPAA gave an R rating.

The second movie deals with a man who becomes 'sexually obsessed' with a DVD recording of the original film and wants to put the idea into practice.

Instead of examining whether the victims will escape the horrific medical experiment, the new film looks at the sexual fantasies of the torturer and the humiliation and mutilation he inflicts.

An online teaser released to promote the new film called it 'the sickest movie of all time'.

It has not yet been given an official release date in the U.S., but last month the film's Dutch director, Tom Six, told Entertainment Weekly it would be out 'after the summer'.

It is understood the MPAA has not yet seen the movie. It rated the original film, Human Centipede (First Sequence) R for 'disturbing sadistic horror violence, nudity and language'.

At the time of the original film's release, celebrated film critic Roger Ebert said: 'I am required to award stars to movies I review.

'This time, I refuse to do it. The star rating system is unsuited to this film. Is the movie good? Is it bad? Does it matter?

Since 1912, the film classifier has been the arbiter of good taste...

Recent bans include Grotesque (2009) - a Japanese horror film which featured sexual sadism - and A Serbian Film (2010) - featuring sexual violence.
Several films that were originally banned have since been shown in their uncut version, including Tod Browning's Freaks (1932) and Tobe Hooper's The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974).
Battleship Potemkin was refused a certificate in 1933 until the Fifties. It is now a PG.
The Wild Ones was banned in 1955, got an X in 1967 and is also now a PG.

In the UK, it was given an 18 certificate and was shown in cinemas and film festivals before being released on DVD.

Now the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) has ruled no amount of cuts would allow them to give the new film a certificate and said it may fall foul of the Obscene Publications Act.

Six, who helmed both films, promised part one would be 'My Little Pony compared to part two' - which is said to feature a 12-person 'human centipede'.

Film distributors had applied to release the follow-up, The Human Centipede 2, on DVD but its rejection means it cannot be legally supplied in the UK.

The BBFC concluded that the thrust of the film was the 'sexual arousal of the central character at both the idea and the spectacle of the total degradation, humiliation, mutilation, torture and murder of his naked victims'.

It said: 'There is little attempt to portray any of the victims in the film as anything other than objects to be brutalised, degraded and mutilated for the amusement and arousal of the central character, as well as for the pleasure of the audience.'

The BBFC said the film breached classification guidelines and 'poses a real, as opposed to a fanciful, risk that harm is likely to be caused to potential viewers'.

The first film caused a stir when it was released last year by Six but it was thought to be suitable for adult viewing.

Although set in Germany, it was filmed in the Netherlands.

The cast includes Dieter Laser as the mad scientist Dr Heiter - and his three victims are Ashley Williams (as Lindsay), Ashlynn Yennie (Jenny) and Akihiro Kitamura (Katsuro).

The ratings body said that 'although the concept of the film was undoubtedly tasteless and disgusting, it was a relatively traditional and conventional horror film

How did you get to see it? I'm figuring getting it on DVD is the only way I ever will. We have technical issues with bootleg downloads at the home office.

I forgot to weigh in on Serbian Film: I thought it was a lot smarter than I expected. It's barely even a horror film. And the most "shocking" stuff was so absurd I couldn't stop laughing. Slut rag, I won't spoiler it, but the film he screens in the meeting room? High-larious! I was literally slapping my knee. Anyway I thought it was really good and I liked it. Of course, I'm hugely cynical and I bought into the whole metaphor for what the world has become, because I agree completely. Anyone not as bitter as me might disagree.

Hey kids! Plaza Theater has some good stuff coming up: The date for Evil Dead 2 is wrong because Sept. 15 is a Thursday, so who knows when they're actually showing that. But the dates for Night of the Comet seem to be right. And they're showing Fulci's "Zombie" October 21 -- I might have to make an exception and stay up real late on a work night for that one.

just watched two movies over the weekend that are more fucked up in a psychological sense bereavement and redstate ... one is about a young boy kidnapped by a serial killer and the other a sect of fanatical Christians who go waco , i know their theatrical release will be limited so check them out here http://tubeplus.me/

Hobo With A Shotgun - 9/10

Probably the last "fucked up" movie I saw was Hobo With A Shotgun, starring Rutger Hauer. Directed by Jason Eisner, some dude I've never heard of before, but if someone told you it was a Robert Rodriguez film (Machete, Planet Terror, From Dusk Til Dawn), you'd probably believe them. Lots of way the fuck over the top gore and violence. A pretty demented movie. Not an especially profound plot or anything, just lots of crazy fucking killing done by crazy fucking characters. The type of movie that either you'll love or you'll completely hate. But if you love Robert Rodriguez movies, you'll more than likely enjoy this one too.

I loved Hobo With A Shotgun! yes, lots of senseless killing but this movie was fucking hilarious! You gotta watch if you haven't already. It was in the Plaza not too long ago (I didn't get to see it then

) but it's worth renting or buying.

I watched Valhalla Rising the other night. Kind of a strange film -- some kind of cross between Tarkovsky's Sacrifice and Herzog's Aguirre: The Wrath of God.

Except with some bloody fighting.
