That's why you've gotta rinse your horn out as soon as you're done drinking out of it, so it's not stuck in the dishwasher when you're in a mead mood.badcarburetor wrote:Last night was Viking Blod mead. Here's what I've been enjoying this month:
Samuel Smith's Oatmeal Stout - smooth and delicious
Guiness Foreign Extra - basically Guiness with a tad more bite
Sierra Nevada Tumbler - possibly the best brown ale ever
Terrapin Pumpkinfest - Very pumpkin-y and sweet, but not so much that it takes away from it being a beer.
Let the joyous celebrations of Hell begin!

And Young's Double Chocolate is still my favorite beer so far. Try it Gene.
I think they sell it at my job. I believe it's a stout, right?

If they have it, PLEASE tell me where you work!

....had to try the viking blod just bc of the name figuring it would likely suck but really liked it....it tastes a lot better than homemade mead....that was just bad...

I tend to avoid anything with HOP in the name, so I can't help you there.GameFreac wrote:Thinking about buying some Hop Devil and some some Dogfish Head Indian Brown or Smuttynose Robust Porter. Good choices or no?
I've had the Smuttynose Old Brown dog and loved it. Kind of like a Newcastle, but, IMO, tastier. It would make a good session beer.
So that's probably completely unhelpful...
The other night I picked up a sixer each of the Blue Moon Pumpkin Ale and the Victory Festbier. The Blue Moon sucked and tasted not at all like pumpkin. The Festbier was good when it was quite cold and in a glass. Drinking it warmer and out of the bottle at a party was less appealing.
I've been loving the Shipyard Pumpkinhead so I splurged on a bomber of the Shipyard Smashed Pumpkin. It was pretty unpleasant and had a metallic quality to it that I couldn't get over, but I *did* put in the work and finished it.
What I was unable to knock back more than a quarter of was the Southern Tier Creme Brulee Beer, an Imperial Milk Stout. It got rave reviews and the dude in the beer store was all about it. It's super dark and thick and over poweringly sweet. I think that it would have been nice as a treat in a half pint glass at the end of meal, but to try to knock back a bomber was impossible for me. I think the idea was solid as the flavors of creme brulee could make for a very nice brew with the vanilla and caramel, but it would have to be done with a much lighter touch for me to enjoy it. Fucking waste of money, that bomber was.

Well I have 3 Hefeweizens and 3 Brown ales in my fridge so I want something hoppy now. Haha.badcarburetor wrote:I tend to avoid anything with HOP in the name, so I can't help you there.GameFreac wrote:Thinking about buying some Hop Devil and some some Dogfish Head Indian Brown or Smuttynose Robust Porter. I love that Old Dog Brown Ale. It blows Newcastle out of the water. It's actually one of my favorite brown ales.
I'm probably gonna go with the Smuttynose Robust Porter since I already have 3 different brown ales in my fridge.
Damn I wanna try that Creme Brulee but it's so expensive...I don't mind super sweet. Gotta get it soon.

Well it just so happens that I drank a DFH india Brown last night and it had been a while since I last had it.Smelled like raisens, sugar, caramel malts and clean hop goodness. The taste was great, dark malts and a slightly sweet finish with a little of the hop flavor, brown ale done right. Its also very dark u cant see thru the glass at all.GameFreac wrote:Thinking about buying some Hop Devil and some some Dogfish Head Indian Brown or Smuttynose Robust Porter. As far as smuttynose goes Ive never had the robust porter but did recently drink a smuttynose 22oz baltic porter (big beer series) it had been in the fridge since winter and let me just say buy it if you see it.Kinda like a ris but smoother,I was pleasantly amazed at how good it was.
Hop devil is a good beer as long as you like a little bitter hop bite.
Id recommend the dfh brown and baltic porter, be sure to check the date on the dfh and the smuttynose has a bottle conditioned mark as well.
Well I'm definitely getting the Hop Devil because I want an IPA since all I have in my fridge are 3 Hefs and 3 Brown Ales right now.egg yolkeo wrote:Well it just so happens that I drank a DFH india Brown last night and it had been a while since I last had it.Smelled like raisens, sugar, caramel malts and clean hop goodness. I'll get the Dogfish Head Brown Ale next time and I'll try the Baltic Porter soon but I wanna try the Robust Porter first because I think it's cheaper and comes in 6 packs, while the Baltic comes in 4 packs or only bombers I'm pretty sure. I heard both are great though.

I went to Green's before the CTTS show in November and was looking around like 5 minutes before they closed and didn't see it. The guy told me they were gonna close and asked if I was looking for anything. I said FBS but I guess you guys don't have it. He walks over and grabs one of the last 4 packs in a box that was hidden.stygian will wrote:where did you get this? it sounds delicious....it has my favorite coffee in it (sumatra) plus it's a beer for breakfast!!GameFreac wrote:Bump
Founder's Breakfast Stout.
Best beer ever (so far). That is all.
Glad he asked cuz I would have just walked out. I'm gonna try to age 2 and drink one at the 6 month mark and 1 at the end of next semester but I don't have a cellar or a wine fridge so I don't know if I can just leave it in my apartment closet or what. I've never aged anything before.
Also, try Lagunitas Sucks Holiday Ale if you can find it. I wanna buy a 6 pack when I get back to GA...only got a single last time and wish I got more now.
