i really dont care who stands next to me at shows etc. but i guess it is a bit weird to me when soft, fixed gear bike, communists state their absolute love of a music that celebrates values that are the antithesis of their other proposed beliefs.....i was drawn to bm because of its celebration of historic northern european culture, stories of ancient battles, the power and beauty of nature, the classical music influence on song structure etc, the stupidity of the masses, and most importantly the musics' focus on individualism. when i see an "occupy wall street" type wearing a burzum shirt the shit just cracks me up.....if that's elitist well, ok because i don't believe everyone is "equal" anyway

the cure

Post by Odinson666 » Thu October 20th, 2011, 2:57 pm

i take comfort in knowing that time, is the cure to all things hipster, because people who do not have a genuine love for metal but the fact the sludge scene is hip and the want to jump on it's coat tails , in 5 or 6 years from now some else will take it's place , case in point , i remember when all the old rock billy kids in little five points , threw away there social distortion shirts got used ac/dc ones to go with their trucker hats and grew out beards because being white trash became cool.
So you suddenly like Burzum instead of minor threat , i could careless at least it's not the black lips, i don't care because sooner or later the trust fund money is going to run out or you are going to graduate from Georgia state and go work for you daddy's business, sure you will play hip on the weekend until you knock your girl friend with the ironic 70's bangs up and then you will be cruising target in your avett brothers shirt again .
until then i am going to start a metal cover band for the hipsters and call it irony maiden... we'll only play songs you should of already heard

Still no contest for your reverse corpse paint Al Jolson Maiden tribute, Iron Minstrel. I still bust out a pretty righteous guffaw on that one every now and then.

the back up band for that one is going to be comprised of the brothas who have answered craig's list ads thinking black metal is living colour and fishbone.

of course the ads they were responding to were in the man seeking misc encounters

I like music that sounds good to my ears. Some completely contradicts with my personal values. "So what?" is my thought. I could give a rat's ass what stance on elitism is held by my waiter, my vet, my mechanic or many of my friends so whay would I hold a musician to a higher standard?

When things line up with my belief system it's nothing more than the cherry on top. For that matter, my opinions are complicated on most subjects and don't unilaterately line up with anyone else. There are elements of the philosophies of Guevara, LeVay, Manson, ISD, Michael Moore, Jesus and Varg that I can nod along with as well as many elements that make me shake my head in dismissal.

I'll leave the subject of hipsters alone as it seems to have been done to death here.
