Fuckin' A right. I guess that means that I should delete the Word doc on my hard drive, tentatively entitled
Transcendental Cheese Metal: Kim B. Petersen as Übermensch.
Nyarlothotep -- I couldn't even get that far.

"Cheese," "over the top," "theatrics" = METAL.
Next up, these dudes aren't down with Manowar.
Would have to rename the forum, NOOB "METAL"

I never could get used to his voice. He's like the Frankie Valley of metal.
And what's wrong with Frankie Valli? You not down with Jersey Boys either? Heresy! And I'm Southern to the bone!
Not down with Frankie Valli. And I've never seen or heard Jersey Boys.
I knew this would stir up some shit.

TBH, the only song I know is that horrible "Blow Your Speakers" with the ridiculous video from way back in the day.

Why have you been going solo with the apron lately? I was better when all you guys wore em'.

MF > KD imo. I've always been a WAY bigger fan of the Nuns Have No Fun EP and Melissa than anything else in King's discography.
I agree with awesome and over the top, as Metal is supposed to be over the top in some form. the songs on "Fatal Portrait' were intended for the follow up to the "Don't Break the Oath" .
But saying King Diamond is cheesy is like saying the Exorcist is cheesy, because you have to take into consideration the time it came out . In 1984 Mayhem was still in their garage trying to learn Venom covers. I was a little kid when " Don't Break the Oath'' came out and I talked my grand parents to buy it for me , and I remember very clearly only listening to during the day because it scared me to listen to it at night. Granted I would play with a Ouija board when listened to it. Any ways my copy of ''Shout at the Devil '' was greatly neglected after that.
I'm going ahead and spending my vacation dollars on a trip to Hell fest because if he is only playing two European Festivals this year I would be surprised if they do any extensive touring this year, i think with his health he is taking baby steps . Plus I also get to see Taake, Sacred Reich, Saint Vitus, Arcturus, Solstafir, and Necros Christos.

I suppose in the context of the time those albums came out they would have been taken a bit more "seriously" so to speak but I don't think that analogy is entirely accurate... in that The Exorcist is still one of the most disturbing and legitimately horrific movies ever created while KD's albums are not. There is a certain amount of "cheese" involved but it's a good thing... like many horror movies that intended to be genuinely frightening but instead are more amusing/fun to watch then frightening. It's all a matter of opinion I suppose... KD rules either way.

agreed, I know you understand it , but I think out of respect for the King , he has to be taken into the context of the 80's .
not sure where else to post this funny tidbit but a King Diamond thread seems appropriate . My daughter who will be 2 at the end of Feb, calls the Devil or any likeness of a ''deb bull'' , So just to see what she would say ,today I showed her a picture of Jesus and asked her who she thought it was and she said " Monkey ''

I agree completely, chief. The last time I heard KD was probably 1984 or 1985: my buddy had just gotten
Don't Break the Oath on cassette. I was probably 15.
For reasons I can't explain now, I was genuinely scared by Venom and Slayer. As in, "I am putting my immortal soul at risk listening to this, but damn I need to hear In League With Satan again"! Not so much with MF.

For me King Diamond evolved my musical taste ,Venom and Bathory had to grow on me as their albums weren't as well produced and sounded more like punk rock, though Celtic Frost clicked for me. Celtic Frost and Motorhead were the first two bands where i was alright with the fact they weren't really singing. The first Slayer I heard was '' Live Undead'' and that had enough Metal yodeling to work for me , however aside from King Diamond the album that really blew me away and influenced what I listen to today is " Rrröööaaarrr " by Voi Vod.

It kind of annoys me when people say they dont like King Diamond because its cheesy or too goofy. It is a little, but you just have take it as its a show/story, because its like a movie on record. Its cool to have something a little different. If you could just listen to the music without knowing what he looks/acts like on stage, the music is just amazing. Even though some of his new albums and songs are alright, Im not too fond of anything after House of God.
I prefer Mercyful Fate, but just a tad bit more. His voice is shrill and piercing at times but I like variety.

I first heard a KD song when I was 15 and didn't get into, because it was entirely out of context. I got into Fate a lot easier because it's more straightforward like Priest. After listening to full KD albums, mainly because of Wead and Larocque, I started to understand the importance of the stories and the cheese factor kind of went away.

I think both rule beyond comprehension, and can't stop listening to either.

That was pretty much how I was when I first heard of KD and MF. KD is really good, but regardless I still prefer MF is better than KD.
