PA definitely had issues a time or two at the Phillips show and Dave obviously fucked up a few songs. Can't say it bothered me that much though. I had always figured catching the brothers Van Halen and Dave together again would never ever happen for me. A credit card, a gallon of Guiness, and a row full of moms showing me their $35 VH thongs probably helped.
Roth was working his "Vegas style" thing that night, where he just kind of "comes in and out" of the program.

It's such a weird album, so cover heavy, yet (IMO) full of their best originals ever. One of my rock n' roll dreams is that I get a time machine and get them to write five more originals during those sessions. People are so divided on that album to this day. If I could find one of those oversized old record store sized posters, I'd still rock that fucker in my house.stewvee wrote:BTW I love Diver Down too, K. Little Guitars rules as does Hang em High. I think the thing with Philips and sound is that it's highly dependent on where your seats are located. I saw the Police there around the same time that VH came through on that reunion tour and the sound in my nosebleed seats was hideous. I know the Police catalog nearly as well as I know VH and in many songs I couldn't figure out what they were playing until they got to the chorus. It's was just a wall of mushy noise. But my floors seats for VH sounded pristine, save for the band not knowing what was up.
Totally off topic, but the old fuckers will remember the concert the Police did in 84 at the Omni for Synchronicity was recorded and played endlessly on HBO. If memory serves the show was on the last day of school or very close to it. It's now on DVD and easily obtainable. That video is a band at the height of it game, a crowd that was on their feet for the show and 80s fashion that has to be seen to be believed. I miss big shows like that full of kids were super pumped to be there.
/old people rant.
