gsu

Post by log^Anarchy » Thu August 16th, 2012, 1:10 pm

Hey guys, i have a huge favor to ask. I'm gonna be at ga state this year, and naturally, there are quite a few shows I'm trying to go to. However, I didn't realize at the time that most of the venues are not within a short walking distance. But that's not really the problem; I haven't spent too much time in the city, being from the suburbs, but I doubt that walking home from 529, the Masq, etc. at 11:30-12 at night is very smart...? And MARTA is too inconvenient to be an option, I'm better off just walking.

So what I'm asking is if anyone here goes to GSU or simply lives around the area, I would be greatly obliged if any of you could give me rides to/from the show. I'd of course supply gas money or whatever. I know it's annoying to beg people for rides home after a show, so I thought it wouldn't hurt to just ask here in advance.

Here are the shows I'm planning on going to:

Sunn O))) @ Masq
GY!BE @ Buckhead Theatre
Vektor @ 529
Swans @ Terminal West

I'm also highly considering these shows:

Kreator @ Masq
Skeletonwitch @ 529
Morbid Angel @ Masq

I really appreciate it guys...

At least you're begging for rides home BEFORE the shows actually start,eh?

Good luck at GSU.

You'll be able to handle most stuff in ATL via bike. You can even slap it on the front of most buses.

Shit dude, thanks so much! I never even considered the bus option. This route is perfect. For the Buckhead Theatre I can just take the 110 ("Peach") down to GSU too. For the masq I can take the 2 from Boulevard and Ponce (a bit of a walk from the masq but not too bad) to the North Ave train station and take the train down to Five Points, but do you know when the trains stop running?

I couldn't find a route from Terminal West to GSU, though...

Yeah I'm considering that but I don't how bike-friendly Atlanta is, and I don't have much experience biking in the city anyway

@Moloc: Thanks man!

@RegularNate: Eh I mean it could work I guess, but if I had to pull it out I wouldn't look very convincing... or maybe you were just joking, in which case it's still not the worst idea in the world, but I doubt I'll have the balls

It doesn't look like any buses go all the way out to Terminal West, but #1 comes pretty close.

The routes are listed (http://www.itsmarta.com/bus-schedules.aspx) but you will probably still need rides home in most cases (they stop running around 11pm on weekdays and 10pm on Saturdays.)

I know you said MARTA was mostly inconvenient, but it should be helpful at times.

Not a friendly city for two wheels at all. I commuted daily on a bike from Midtown into Buckhead for about three years in hopes of trying to save some money and just recently threw in the towel after dealing with countless contusions, a round of stitches, and a nasty broken clavicle. These fuckers will absolutely run you down and not even bother to stop. I highly recommend wearing a helmet, run your strobes even during the day, and have at least a basic major medical plan. Just my opinion.

I was sideswiped by a big van's side-view mirror and knocked off the road once when biking home from GSU. I wasn't hurt, but I can't say I miss those days very much (the biking, that is--I do miss school).

The last train is north bound and it stops around 1:30 to 1:40 and the train starts again at 6:00. The buses all depend.

On the website it says the buses run until around 12:20, and some of the trains even run past 1. Is the website incorrect? I'm a suburbanite :( so I really wouldn't know

Yeah, you're right. I was looking at 186 originally, I think.
