Guitarists?

Post by sleigher » Wed January 2nd, 2013, 11:15 pm

Guitarists

I have been researching amps and amp tones for a while now. I have built some replicas, and am getting to the point that I want to work on designing a new amp that is versatile for different metal tones.

What I am looking for is someone who is well versed in different metal styles and the corresponding guitar tones that go along with those styles. Someone who would be willing to donate a little time here and there to tell me "that completely blows" or " yeah that's it!" Also someone who can help me understand what makes a tones sound, so I can apply that to the circuitry.

This is also just a side thing for me so it's not gonna be every week or day or anything like that. Just the occasional jam with your band using the prototype amp to know I am on the right track. I would need the guitarist to do that as I am not a very good player. Past beginner but not a guitarist in any true respect of the word.

I am fairly far along on an amp now that will probably be a base to work from. It isn't finished but I wanted to post to see if anyone would be willing to lend some ear and play time.

Ultimately I want the amp to be no more than 2 channels and go the full spectrum. Death/Black/True/Sludge/Power/Doom/whatever. AC-DC to Watain (A to Z) with a turn of the knob(s).

Also, the amp will be valves and not solid state. Not sure if that matters to many of you but it does to me.

Thanks in advance.

point taken, but usually with a tube screamer, distortion pedal, among others. Or even mods to the head. A JCM800 is not doing that alone and stock.

I'm a huge 800 fan, but I don't play metal styles for the most part.

Seems like one amp that "does it all" is hoping for a bit much. Usually, it's best to get the right tool for a specific job. Otherwise things end up with that prepackated POD sound. Good luck, though.
