Atlanta Record Show

Post by Knucklehead » Sat January 5th, 2013, 11:32 am

So, this is tomorrow at the Marriott at Century Center, near I-85 and Clairmont. I'm trying to get there around 10:00.

Is anyone else going?

Yeah. I had high aspirations. It's looking that for me, too.

How was this? I've been many times in the past, back to when it was held up on Northside at 75 in the Castlegate (name?) hotel.

The last time I went I didn't find much of interest. I like old soul a lot, but I don't really collect it and that seemed to be the focus of the show.

So, what did y'all score?

I'd say that it still was. There were lots of vendors, but only three had dedicated metal bins. And the Scorps and AC/DC were well represented. So much for my hopes of picking up Antichrist by Gorgoroth.

Having said that, I did pick up a sealed, Combat release of Rrroooaaarrr. Weird.

That was worth the effort, for sure.

I forgot that at the last show I did find a dude with a bin of $5 metal LPs. So decent stuff, if mainly third tier stuff. I can't recall what I picked up, so that about says it all.

The last time I went to one of these, I believe it was 1987 and I was on a quest to find KISS' Music from the Elder. (I was successful.) I still remember waiting for the doors to open, talking to the two first-in-line crones and fellow KISS fanatics, one of whom was melded to some kind of proto-Li'l Rascal, and who I assume had been parked there for hours in advance. I recall asking her who she preferred, Criss or Carr, to which she rolled her eyes and muttered, "now that's a stuuupid question, what a stuuupid question. We don't pick favorites."

Yeah fuck you lady, I was fourteen.

I do miss those record shows, though; I had no idea they still ran. I'm certain that somewhere among the boxed detritus of my life I have at least one of those little fluorescent yellow flyers from back in the day.

The flyers still look the same. There's something oddly comforting about that every time that I come across one.

In case you want to go again sometime:
