Meshuggah, Animals as Leaders, Intronaut 2/12/2013
Tonight at Center Stage, $25
Anyone going to this? I only know two Meshuggah albums but they put on a good show the times I saw them so I'm probably be there.

That's correct. They put up a cardboard cutout of their singer (with pants!) at the mic stand with recorded vocals playing. I think he said it was a European tour. It stood there the whole set except for the last couple of songs. The first of which was New Millenium Cyanide Christ sung by dude from Intronaut. Dude did a good job.

I kinda wish they would have jsut played completely instrumental and foregone the vocal track.
That said, I'm glad they didn't cancel the show altogether. Also, the cardboard cut-out was pretty fucking funny.
Also, holy fucking shit, my eyeballs have PTSD now!

They had recorded a show for a DVD earlier in the tour. They just took the vocal track from that recording and sync'ed it up to their click track. It was pretty low in the mix, and basically served to help the audience sing along. They were just trying to make the best of a shitty situation and avoid cancelling the show. If they were using those tracks on a regular basis or trying to fool anyone into thinking it was live then Jens might as well have come out and lip sync'ed it, right?badcarburetor wrote:Why would a band have a lead vocal track recorded and ready to go?
That sounds so fucking lame I can't even process it. Way to make Beyonce seem real.
Oh well, that band is blander than mashed potatoes to me anyway.
Anyway, musically, the show was awesome (granted, I love the band, and love the new album which was what most of the set consisted of). The light show was mind-blowing. It was like an alien invasion. Imagine if the Pink Floyd Laser Show wanted to kill you! So, basically I was equal parts impressed and disappointed.
Oh, and lame or not, the cardoard cut-out was hilarious. Wacky Swedes....
