Sadly, I agree with you. Hatebreed is a band that I want to loathe, but instead stupidly love to bits. I'm hoping the new one with grow on me, but so far it's missing the hooks that they usually do so well. I'm really bummed about that, but at least there is a ton of killer new stuff dropping all at once.

Do you have Behexen "My Soul for His Glory"? If you don't, I must insist that you get it right now. Holy shit it's good. I will be sad if that album doesn't make you crazy about them.
DeathfareDevil wrote:Taake - Bjoergvin. Is it just me or is this band overrated? This is the 3rd album of theirs I've bought, and my "holy shit" moment has not arrived. I believe thus shall close Mr. Dangledong's window of opportunity to woo me.
Taake is weird. But check out Doedskvad (Hordalands? Hordalands Doedskvad? Who knows.) because that junk is brilliant. (Stew might not agree, since I bought it from him. Tee hee.) I played it in the shower this morning to try to break out of my four-day losing streak and get ready for work. It's been a really long weekend.

On the off chance you haven't Carl McCoy's post Fields thing, Nefilim, their album Zoon is like an angrier, darker, metal version of his previous band. Pretty wicked.

I wish I could say I liked MSFHG, as everything about it screams "YOU WILL LOVE THIS" but for whatever reason, despite my need for lo-fi black metal with grandiose melodies, it just kind of went in one ear and out the other. Who knows, maybe it was a case of bad timing or mood. Actually I recall really liking the first track, which set up the rest of the album to be a disappointment.

Hordalands is one of the two Taake albums I don't own, and I can't see my appreciation for him/them suddenly blooming after giving ample ear to what are supposedly the best two, Nattestid and Bjoergvin.

On a different note, in my mailbox today was Apotheosis' Farthest from the Sun, an album I'd incorrectly assumed to be impossible to find. I never bothered to check around for it and resigned myself to crappy low kbs mp3s. Shockingly there it was on Amazon, still shrinkwrapped for less than $7. If anyone needs utterly ridiculous one-man Maltese soundtrack music for DOS roguelikes, then by all means hop aboard. It's bonkers: thrashy, "symphonic" (in the Casio sense), black, ambient, cavernous, meandering wizardry.

And since I got bored halfway through my last NP, here's the rest:

Carcass - Symphonies of Sickness
Impaled - The Dead Shall Dead Remain
Yattering - Murder's Concept; Genocide
Current 93 - Honeysuckle Aeons
Comus - First Utterance
December Wolves - Completely Dehumanized
Neuraxis - Asylon

The other day I stumbled across this, http://hourofslack.libsyn.com/ -- no idea if whatever these degenerates are doing nowadays is anything like the awesome insanity of what I used to hear on WREK late at night, but here's to hoping, as I fill my ipod.

As well you should! That was one of very few bright spots in a year otherwise pretty desolate for black metal.

Actually 2012 kind of sucked overall. I'm relieved that 2013 already seems to be making up for it. On top of Carcass, Immolation, Darkthrone, Suffocation, Voivod, Gorguts, and several others I'm forgetting, The Ruins of Beverast is supposed to have a new one out before summer. Joy.

Speaking of Gorguts, rather than create a thread for this, here was a I_LOVE_ZUCKERPENIS post from Mssr. Lemay:

Luc here,

Just a little word to tell you that our album OBSCURA will be played in it's totality on march 14th 5 PM (NY time) on air of this Greek
Prog Radio show: www.justincaseradio.com

I will participate to a chat with the fans while the album will play on air.

The show will be dedicated to the memory of Steeve Hurdle and Steve MacDonald. Two musicians who were largely responsible
for the sound and the "out of the box" quality of these compositions.

All the best,

Luc Lemay

Svartidaudi's Flesh Cathedral, which I remember having written into one of those to-do lists we all have sitting around, but which I shamefully just now got around to sampling, is fucking stellar. Will order tangible version immediately. It sounds like Deathspell Omega's evil twin that went about developing atomic weaponry rather than pursue math rock. Not that I dislike the more recent DSO stuff.

Also on that list was the Vemod I've seen mentioned not just in this thread but throughout the great vast beyond, and I can't say it's moving me to similar altitudes. A little too Cascadian for me. Maybe I need to take it into the woods with some herbal supplements.

Medico Peste's Tremendum et Fascinatio, while not mindblowing, is good for those people like myself who will devour anything that sounds even a little like Glorior Belli -- a little twangy, a little slithery, a little grungy, totally diseased. It feels ... sepia. Maybe burnt umber.

Has this been covered?

http://www.spin.com/articles/metallica- ... r-august-9
the internet wrote: Metallica's upcoming 3D movie now has an official title and theatrical release date: Metallica Through the Never will hit movie screens on August 9, the band revealed on their website today (January 15). The film, written and directed by Predators lensman Nimród Antal, will consist of concert footage shot during Metallica's August 2012 performances at Vancouver's Rogers Arena and will also feature a fictional narrative centered around actor Dane DeHaan (set to co-star in 2014's The Amazing Spider-Man 2).

According to the official statement, "DeHaan plays a young band crew member who is sent out on an urgent mission while the band is playing a rousing live set in front of a sold-out crowd and unexpectedly finds his world turned completely upside down."

...

In a recent interview with Classic Rock (via Blabbermouth), the Danish drummer compared Through the Never to Led Zeppelin's 1976 concert movie, The Song Remains the Same...
How long til they start selling condoms and coffins?

e: yes I'm plagiarizing Knucklehead's bold/italic presentation. It looks so tidy.

I've been listening to a lot of Sonic Youth lately. Never listened to these guys before but I'm kind of obsessed now :P

I've heard Daydream Nation, Goo, EVOL, Sister, and Washing Machine so far... Washing Machine's probably my favorite, with EVOL trailing not too far behind
