Re: Primitive Man, Spectral Voice, Encoffination - 4/4
encoffination sounded good. they played three songs, all with amos guest drumming. I think I liked their set at mass d better, though.
spectral voice played a great set. I remember them being pretty good in chi a few years ago, but honestly it's a bit fuzzy. this was resonantly and memorably great in contrast.

Spectral Voice was really great. One of the best sets I’ve seen in a long time. Entrancing.

Excellent all around. Encoffination sounded really good. Amos actually sat in for Wayne who couldn't make it. Pretty flawless and their mix was perfect. And jesus christ was Spectral Voice ever good. My first time seeing them. Most of what they played sounded almost identical to their recordings. I absolutely love that. Every Disembowelment worshipping clean guitar part was crystal clear through the murk. The Earl still somehow manages to outdo themselves with incredible sound every now and then. This was definitely one of those times. I hate that I missed Incantation last week even more if the PA was dialed in for them like it was for Spectral Voice. They were the highlight of the night. Primitive Man was fairly anticlimactic after that. Watched a couple of songs.

salt in the wounds, but it was even better
okay, maybe I wouldn't say the live mix was actually better, I probably just liked it more since incantation's sound was pretty dry whereas everything with sv was drenched in reverb, which tends to murk things up. splitting a tomato-ahto hair, really, though

Yeah, Spectral Voice stole the show. Primitive Man couldn't keep me interested.
