I'm perplexed by this. These two bands are so different from each other, and seem to have such divergent ideas of black metal, that I can't really choose one over the other. Rather than "boxers vs. briefs," this is more like "boxers vs. ... hats."

I boycott your poll, sir!

This is a good point, but, they're both from the Black Circle era Norway. So I voted...and I voted for Immortal. I have a deep respect for Emeror's In The Nightside Eclipse, but I think I just personally like Immortal better. Battles In The North, Damned In Black, Sons of Northern Darkness and the new one are pretty fucking awesome. I did'nt care for the solo Ishahn stuff. Perhaps things would be differant if Bard had'nt gone to jail after the first album, In The Nightside Eclipse rules so hard.

I'd say that I like both bands equally but I think that IX Equilibrium was the best album that either ever put out so I'll have to vote for Emperor.

I have never compared them though. I have pretty much seen them as equals b/c they are both so important but so different.......honestly its like comparing Metallica and Slayer to me.

I love all of Emperor's CDs, but

IX Equilibrium > In The Nightside Eclipse > Athems > Promethus

IX Equilibrium is one of my all time favorite albums, and definitely my favorite from Emperor.

But for the sake of this thread, I voted Emperor.

yeah seriously

it says we'll settle this once and for all but I never knew this was anything to settle

I mean Megadeth/Metallica or something like that would make a lot more sense

I voted Immortal. I like both a lot but Immortal is more influential and fucking rock harder. My favorite Emperor is Nightside and Anthems.

The only reason I posted this is because everyone was talking about it in the Kreator thread.

The Darkness That Embrace Me could be the only song ever released by Immortal, and they'd still be infinitely better than Emperor.

Word life.

I was the first vote for Immortal.

I love both bands and discovered Emperor first, but I find myself enjoying Immortal songs just a bit more than Emperor songs generally.
I favor Nightside Eclipse and then Anthems from them....looks like I might have to revisit IX Equilibrium.

Cool, I was going to ask what albums the people who voted Immortal were thinking of.

I thought At The Heart of Winter was alright, nothing special. When I heard Battles In The North I was expecting to be blown away but again, it was just alright. I really like Anthems To The Welkin At Dusk, and I like Nightside Eclipse so I went with Emperor.
