You disagree? I have always heard people complain that Bathory basically ripped Venom off. I don't really hear it on the first or third albums. But some of the guitar riffs on this one sound a lot like Mantas. "Total Destruction", I think, is one of the songs that I had in mind.stewvee wrote:What?!Knucklehead wrote:Bathory -- The Return.... The first one I guess (it's still dirty as fuck), but The Return is like nothing I've heard before or after really. I'm a huge Venom fan, but IMO Mantas' riffs, as nasty as they can get, really don't end up sounding like five leaf blowers, as Quorthon's do here. To me this is the tradition Darkthrone's Blaze, Under..., and Transilvanian... grew out of.Knucklehead wrote:You disagree? I have always heard people complain that Bathory basically ripped Venom off. The sound of the guitars is totally dirty. But the way some of the those riffs are actually structured, it sounds a little like Mantas around the edges.stewvee wrote:The first one I guess (it's still dirty as fuck), but The Return is like nothing I've heard before or after really. You can throw Mayhem and Gorgoroth in there too, I think. It seems pretty clear to me that "Possessed" on this record was the inspiration for Gorgoroth's "Possessed by Satan."stewvee wrote:To me this is the tradition Darkthrone's Blaze, Under..., and Transilvanian... grew out of.

Nope, how is it? I just came across The Mercian Sphere the other day. Usually stuff like that isn't my bag but I've been enjoying it quite a bit.GameFreac wrote:Have you heard the new one yet?Ryan wrote:Winterfylleth - The Mercian Sphere
